Practical Details

Participating in something new often brings practical questions.

The information below addresses the most common details about Altara immersions and participation.

If your question is not answered here, you are welcome to reach out through the contact page.

Participation

Is this medical treatment?

No. The Altara immersion is not a medical appointment or clinical treatment. It is a structured day led by Dr. Monteil that helps participants recognize the patterns of strain affecting their bodies and begin learning how to reduce the pressure those patterns create. Participants continue working with their own healthcare providers for medical care.

Who is this designed for?

Altara immersions are designed for adults experiencing prolonged physiological strain who are seeking a steadier starting point before pursuing performance-based health strategies. Many participants have autoimmune or inflammatory conditions, while others are navigating chronic stress, nervous system dysregulation, or long periods of physical and emotional demand.

Where do I park and arrive?

Detailed arrival instructions and parking guidance are provided to accepted participants prior to the immersion to ensure a smooth arrival on the ranch.

Is the immersion physically demanding?

The day is designed to be accessible for most participants. Activities include seated teaching, guided exercises, and regulated equine interaction. No strenuous physical activity is required.

Application & Enrollment

Participation is intentionally limited to ten individuals. The application allows us to ensure that participants are medically stable and that the immersion is an appropriate fit for their situation.

Why is there an application?

What happens after I apply?

Applications are reviewed manually. If the immersion appears to be a good fit, you will receive an acceptance email with registration details and payment instructions.

Full payment is required upon acceptance in order to reserve your place in the immersion.

When is payment required?

Participants may cancel for a full refund up to 7 days prior to the immersion. Cancellations within 7 days of the immersion may receive a partial refund or transfer to a future immersion, depending on availability. Because participation is limited to ten individuals, these policies help preserve the structure of the day.

About Altara

Is Altara part of a medical clinic?

Altara is a distinct framework founded by Dr. Monteil. It operates independently from clinical practice and focuses on educational and experiential programming.

Yes. Future lanes will extend this philosophy into additional areas of physiological resilience and land-based learning.

Will there be additional Altara programs in the future?

The immersion takes place in a working ranch mountain land that includes both covered and outdoor spaces. Patio heaters and sheltered areas are used when needed, and the schedule can be adjusted based on conditions. Participants are encouraged to dress in layers appropriate for a Montana mountain spring, summer, or fall day.

What if the weather is cold or unfavorable?

When are the immersions held?

The first 2026 Altara immersions are scheduled for May 2, May 17, and May 30.

What facilities are available on the ranch?

The immersion takes place on working agricultural land. Portable restroom facilities with handwashing stations are available for participants during the day.

Yes. Townsend and the surrounding area offer lodging options including local Airbnbs, VRBOs, and small inns. Participants traveling from outside the immediate area often choose to stay overnight before or after the immersion.

Are there places to stay nearby?

No prior horse experience is required. Equine interaction is guided and designed for observation and regulation rather than riding or technical horsemanship.
